Modular learning village
The $14 million Monash College Learning Village is located at Monash University’s Clayton Campus and is a 5,000 m2 facility including 30 classrooms, larger rooms fitting up to 100 students and areas for open plan learning and consultation.
The project involved the modular construction of six double-story buildings manufactured offsite and craned into place on an existing car park. The buildings are connected by steel gantry walkways, furnished by decking and surrounded by landscaping.
The fire engineering analysis included a review of the modular construction fire resistance levels, an egress review for occupants within the upper levels along the steel gantry’s and a detailed fire brigade intervention assessment to satisfy the Metropolitan Fire Brigade’s (MFB) concerns.
